Harry Kewell set for reunion with failed Celtic signing at Yokohama F. Marinos

Harry Kewell was one of Celtic’s first-team coaches under Ange Postecoglou and then Brendan Rodgers for the first half of this season.

He enjoyed great success at the club but when the opportunity to take the manager’s job at Yokohama F. Marinos presented itself, the Aussie jumped at the chance.

He has replaced former Rangers player Kevin Muscat in a position Postecoglou once held before making his way to Celtic in 2021.

And one of the first things Kewell will do as manager of Yokohama F. Marinos is to return to Celtic for a defender who hasn’t played a single minute under Rodgers in 2023/24.

That man is Yuki Kobayashi, who Postecoglou signed for the Hoops last January from Vissel Kobe.

According to Daily Mail journalist Stephen McGowan, Kobayashi is set to reunite with his former Celtic coach Kewell at Yokohama.

This is word-for-word what McGowan wrote about the move: “With Maik Nawrocki finally staking a claim for first-team inclusion and a shoulder injury to Stephen Welsh less serious than first feared, Yuki Kobayashi is also likely to follow former first-team coach Harry Kewell to Yokohama F Marinos.”

The centre-back signed a whopping five-year deal at Parkhead but his move has spectacularly failed and proves Postecoglou did sign a dud or two during his time in Glasgow.

Kobayashi has featured in just one competitive matchday squad this season and that was for the trip to Ibrox against Rangers in September.

He’s been completely anonymous bar that so it makes sense that Rodgers is keen to cut ties with Kobayashi during the current January transfer window.
