Undoubtedly, Celtic have endured a miserable 2020/21 campaign that most Hoops fans will be glad to see the back of.

10-in-a-row is gone and our football department have more or less left the club. A new Chief Executive will start on July 1st, whilst we have a major overhaul of the playing squad to carry out this summer after our first trophyless season in 11 years.

But despite the underwhelming nature of on-field performances this season, there have been some fine goals to look back on.

Here are three contenders for the Celtic goal of the season accolade, scheduled to be announced on June 6th [Celtic FC Official Website]

Odsonne Edouard vs KR Reykjavik

Coming in a thumping 6-0 win over KR Reykjavik in the Champions League qualifiers [BBC Sport], this effort will go down as one of the Frenchman’s best in Celtic colours. Picking the ball up 30-yards from goal, Edouard majestically jinked by three players before slotting elegantly past the goalkeeper.

Granted, it was only Reykjavik. They are one of the worst teams we’ve played in Champions League qualifying, but there was still some insane skill shown in this goal.

In a time where optimism was at an all-time high heading into 2020/21, the finish now represents nothing more than a pleasant distant memory. Edouard is anticipated to depart Celtic this summer as interest in his services intensifies [The Telegraph]. Ultimately, we should enjoy his qualities for the remaining span of his time in Glasgow.

2. Ryan Christie vs Heart of Midlothian

Technically from last season, the wonder strike is still included in the official club award ceremony.

Someone who divides opinion amongst Bhoys fans, even Ryan Christie’s largest critic could not deny the unbelievable technique he demonstrated.

Needing to open the scoring in the enormous Quadruple Treble cup final, the Scotland international stepped forward with a strike for the ages.

Bringing the ball down on the half-turn, the attacking midfielder gave former Celt Craig Gordon no chance as the Celts went on to record a historic triumph [BBC Sport].

3. David Turnbull vs Aberdeen

Lastly, David Turnbull’s 30-yarder against Aberdeen deserves a special mention. Intriguingly, the outstanding strike was engineered by a team effort initiated by Scott Bain. Releasing the ball to Callum McGregor, the mercurial midfielder drove 50 yards up the field before laying it on to Turnbull.

Setting himself, the Scot then drove showed superb technique to drive the ball past Aberdeen stalwart Joe Lewis. In the end, this drive proved the difference in a 1-0 victory for the Celts [Sky Sports].

It’s been a breakthrough season for Turnbull in particular. It would certainly be more than fitting if he earned a reward come the end of it.
