Anthony Ralston has lauded Ange Postecoglou for teaching him a new way of playing at Celtic that he’s never experienced before.

Ralston has come on leaps and bounds this season under Ange with his Celtic career totally transformed. Whilst Josip Juranovic has recently been excelling at right-back, Ralston continues to be a reliable member of the squad.

Celtic’s all-action gung-ho style has won plenty of admirers, with a key onus being put on the full-backs and ensuring they have the ability to underlap, overlap, or come into the centre to take possession.

And Ralston has stated his new role at Parkhead is something hr’s never experienced before as he hailed his boss.

As quoted by the Daily Record, Ralston said: “We all know the individual roles and with that we come together as a team too. It comes with practising it on the training field and in games and getting the experience of being in positions I haven’t been in before and not been used to.

“Obviously, it’s credit to the manager that he’s coached me in that way to play a role I’ve never played before. The same for other boys, not only in my position but over on the other side at left-back. They too have adapted well.

“Personally, I’m enjoying it. It’s a new way of playing and I’m getting used to it. It’s no longer alien for me. It’s a different way of playing but it is effective and I am enjoying it.”

Anthony Ralston shows his commitment to the Celtic cause

Ralston could’ve been forgiven for feeling a touch hard done by in recent weeks. He’s only started 2 of our last 6 league matches, missing out on some huge games against the likes of Hibs, Hearts, and Rangers respectively.

Of course, there’s an obvious reason for that. Celtic have the number 1 Croatian right-back in their squad in Juranovic. He’s been shining in recent weeks and has become a huge fans-favourite. Competing with him isn’t going to be easy, but Ralston is landing his blows when he gets his opportunity.

He was extremely impressive at Fir Park in yesterday’s 4-0 rout of the Steelmen. He was key in ensuring Celtic consistently managed to beat the press put on by Motherwell. There was a real tidiness to Anthony on the ball yesterday, which was great to see given his lack of game-time in recent weeks.

Just as promising is the fact that there’s no complaints from Anthony about his place in the Celtic squad. In truth, he’s probably just grateful that he has one given where his Hoops career was sitting 12 months ago.

He’s managing to become a solid, dependable option for the manager and a key cog in our rotation system. We now know that when Juranovic has to come out for Ralston, we’re getting a very capable right-back who has adapted well to Postecoglou’s methods.

Hopefully, we continue to see more solid displays from Anthony in the next few months.
