Celtic have been hit with yet another frustrating blow in their bid to get fans back into Parkhead, according to the Daily Mail.

The Mail has reported that Rangers’ plans to bring in supporters for their match against Dundee United next weekend hasbeen vetoed. This came after a further 86 cases of Covid were diagnosed in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde area yesterday.

Ross County’s home match against Celtic next weekend could still go ahead with a limited number of spectators.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has banned residents from Glasgow City, West Dunbartonshire, and East Renfreshire from visiting other households. And speaking to the Daily Mail, a government spokesperson stated no test events will take place in these council areas for now.

“We are engaged with representatives from a range of sporting bodies for a small number of pilot events to examine the feasibility of having spectators in stadia and planning has been underway for a number of months to allow this to happen.

“Discussions are still underway and further updates will be provided to stakeholders in due course, but we are clear no proposed test events will take place within the three council areas for the duration of the restrictions.”

Livingston and Hibernian matches in doubt for fan-return

Celtic would likely have been hoping to get some supporters in for their upcoming home matches against Livingston and Hibernian in September respectively.

Yet whilst that may still happen, it will all be dependent on how long the City of Glasgow is to effectively remain restricted. With people no longer allowed to visit other households in Glasgow for the time being, it’s not surprising the return of fans in the area has been put in cold storage.

It’s another blow for the Hoops after they were told they couldn’t have any fans come to their last home match against Motherwell (BBC). That was despite the fact that Murrayfield hosted a similar test event two days previously.

Celtic may also have an eye on the upcoming Glasgow derby on October 17th. However, any fears over potentially having supporters banned for that one would be premature. Not many will be expecting Glasgow to remain restricted for six weeks.

Of course, everything is dependent on how the virus spreads across the city over the next few weeks. Hopefully, we can get back to normality as soon as possible.
