The Daily Record have reported exactly when Neil Lennon and the Celtic players found out about his dramatic exit yesterday.

Lennon officially resigned as the club’s manager this morning. However, the Record reports that he was told enough was enough on Tuesday night. Indeed, the 1-0 loss to Ross County appeared to have been the final straw for a board who did their best to stand by him.

The Record states that more crisis talks were held after Sunday’s dismal result in Dingwall. It was after that point that Lennon was informed.

However, the Celtic players have only found out about the news this morning, the Record says. It’s believed that they were unaware of the dramatic developments behind the scenes yesterday.

Regardless, it’s over. Lennon is finally out the door and the club can now focus on moving forward.

Lennon leaving Celtic came three months too late

At the very least, this decision from the Celtic board will satisfy the appetite of many who were fearful Lennon was staying. The Celtic manager didn’t help with his rhetoric about rebuilding for next season.

But in terms of this season, this all came three months too late. The title race has been over for some time, and it was even before then that the manager had to go. The Celtic supporters are hardly rejoicing at the news of Lennon’s departure.

Yes there’s a satisfaction. Yes there is a relief that he won’t be in charge for next season. But the board can forget receiving any praise for making a decision that we have all been calling for over the last three months.

For the likes of Peter Lawwell and Dermot Desmond are just as much to blame as Lennon is. It was their own backing of the manager that led directly to an easy title win for Rangers.

Now, Celtic are left with Kennedy in charge as we head into the remaining eight games of the campaign. There is no clear plan for the future, but at the very least it will be Lennonless.

But today doesn’t mark a happy day for supporters. The fact it’s taken this long will always leave us regretful.
