Official news regarding Martin O’Neill’s backroom staff has finally arrived for Celtic fans, but it’s not what everyone wants to hear.
As Celtic fans continue to wait for confirmation around O’Neill’s backroom staff for next season, the club have confirmed that Gavin Strachan has left his coaching role in Glasgow to join West Bromwich Albion in the Championship.
Strachan spent six years at Celtic, and he was a member of the team that helped O’Neill win the domestic double last season.
O’Neill only spent six months working with Strachan, and after his exit was confirmed, the Celtic boss spoke in glowing terms about the 47-year-old via the club’s social media channels.
“I have only really known Gavin for the past six months,” said O’Neill. “But his contribution was vital to our success, and of course I wish him very well for the future in his new role.”

West Brom announce Gavin Strachan’s arrival before Celtic
The day Celtic are ahead of the curve or pro-active in their ways is the day pigs will fly because, once again, the club have showcased their flaws.
As many saw when O’Neill’s return for the 2026/27 season was being talked about, various media outlets reported it for about ten days before Celtic confirmed it.
With Strachan’s departure, you had West Brom confirm the Scotsman as part of their coaching staff on social media, and then around an hour later, Celtic finally confirmed it from their side.
Once again, proving that they do things at their own leisure and how their communication with supporters is pretty pathetic.
The sad thing about all of this is the fact that Celtic fans are used to it.
Added to that, as a crucial 2026 summer transfer window looks set to define the club’s near future, many are worried that things won’t change, despite a person of O’Neill’s pedigree being in the building.
