What a week it has been for the Celtic Women side. After snatching a last-gasp 1-1 draw against Rangers at Broadwood on Monday night, not only did it keep Celtic’s faint hopes for the title alive, it also puts us in pole position to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

With the Glasgow Derby dominating the headlines for all the wrong reasons, it could be argued that credit to the Celtic side was lost because of the antics of the Rangers assistant manager Craig MacPherson.

But now, as the dust settles on the game, the heroine of the night Caitlin Hayes has been recognised for her performance in the match as she was named in the SWPL’s Team of the Week.

Hayes strike against Rangers prevented Celtic from being leapfrogged in the table by our great rivals and given that the goal came so late in the game, it will give the team a massive psychological boost heading into what is already turning out to be a crucial April in the calendar.

Hayes has been a standout in the last two Glasgow Derbies.

A double helped secure a 3-0 home win in last month’s tie where the team sealed their first victory over their city rivals for the first time in almost two years.

The team face Glasgow City twice in April knowing that if they defeat Leanne Ross’s side in both matches and win the other three remaining fixtures against Partick Thistle, Hearts and Hibs, they could revive their title hopes.

As I said, the chances are slim but whilst it is still mathematically possible, like the Glasgow Derby draw, the women must believe anything is possible.
