Celtic have announced a new contract for Women’s defender Chloe Craig. The 29-year-old put pen to paper on a new three-year deal this afternoon as Fran Alonso prepares for next season at the Hoops.
Craig is a key player in Alonso’s team. Her versatility in defence was significant at various stages last season. In captain, Kelly Clark’s absence from the team, Craig stepped in to take over the captain’s armband on several occasions.
The experienced defender has played more than 250 times for Celtic in her 14 years at the club. In the last two seasons, Craig has lifted three trophies which included retaining the Scottish Cup against Rangers at the end of last season. It’s the first time the Celtic Women have won the competition back-to-back.

Remarkably, prior to signing a full-time contract with Celtic, Craig worked as a postal worker in between coming to training and appearing for Celtic when the Women’s side was playing part-time.
At the time of signing her contract back in January 2020, Craig said [Glasgow Times], “I choose to work there purely because the times worked for me.

“It meant that I could go to work, have a break and then go to training rather than going from a full-time job at night straight into training. Now that Celtic is my job it makes life so much easier.”
Well, it seems now that Craig has three more years to look forward to at Celtic and if she can help the team build on last season’s successes it should be an exciting time for Fran Alonso and his team.
Craig is the third Celtic player to agree a new deal at the club. Kelly Clark and Natalie Ross both extended their deals and with the additions of Nourimane Addi, Colette Cavanagh, Jenny Smith and Luana Muñoz [Celtic FC], Alonso certainly looks like he is determined to build something special at the club next season.
