Celtic have been drawn against Danish club Brondby in the First Round of the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

As part of the tournament’s League Path, the Ghirls were drawn into a four-team group that also includes FC Minsk of Belarus and Norwegian side Valerenga. There will be two one-legged semi-finals and a final to determine the winner of this one-venue mini-tournament.

That winner then enters round two of the tournament, which determines group stage places from a two-legged knockout tie against a single opponent.

The hosts of the knockout mini-tournaments will be confirmed from among the clubs in each group. Matches will be played on 6th and 9th September with a third-place playoff also part of the process.

The round two draw then takes place on 15th September before matches in October. The group stage of the competition kicks off in November and concludes in January, which whittles teams down to the quarter-finals.

Celtic were one of eight unseeded teams at this stage of the tournament in their path and face an uphill task to win their first match, never mind win the final and progress.

This is just the second time that Celtic have played in the tournament, losing against Levante and ZFK Minsk in 2021/22.

It’s a stated aim of the club to try and make progress domestically and on the continent in the women’s game, but finishing as runner-ups in SWPL makes it a much more difficult process.
