Former Celtic FC Women forward Mariah Lee has departed the club for FC Nordsjælland.
Lee, who scored one of Celtic’s most important goals as a professional club, was a success in her short stint at the club. Her winning strike against Rangers catapulted Celtic past their rivals in the hunt for Champions League football.
The Seattle-born striker scored 6 goals in 11 appearances for Celtic FC Women. Not only was she effective on the pitch, but she was a positive dressing room influence, who was always immensely quotable in press conferences.
On her strike against Rangers, Lee told 67 Hail Hail 3 months ago:
“Fran was just saying ‘you’re gonna score, I can feel it’. So he predicted it! And probably I think I got some tactical stuff, too, but I just remember Fran saying ‘you’re gonna score’, and I was like ‘ok!’
“I wasn’t really nervous. I’m used to having to come on and do stuff and make things happen. I just had confidence that I could do what I do best.”
FC Nordsjælland’s sporting director Mikkel Hemmersam said of signing Lee [FCN]:
“We are really happy to be able to add Mariah to our very talented squad. She comes from Celtic and has a past at large and talented universities in the USA, so she already has a lot of experience despite her young age.”
Another big dressing room presence, this time Mariah Lee, leaves Celtic FC Women for pastures new
Given the successes of last season, it’s disappointing to see so many big names depart the club.
Prolific striker Sarah Ewens and SWPL Player of the Year Lisa Robertson have both left for Birmingham City, the latter on loan. With Lee leaving, as well as Anna Filbey, some talented players have exited Fran Alonso’s side.

That said, Alonso is working quickly to bring players in. Shen Mengyu, Cheyenne Shorts, Maria Olafsdottir Gros, Tyler Toland and Charlie Wellings have all joined the club in recent weeks, with more to come.
For American talent Lee, who has aspirations of being a judge [FCN], it’s another exciting step on her footballing journey.
The Farum-based side have their own goals, having won the Danish Women’s Cup in 19-20 [Soccerway].
