Celtic FC Women have joined Europe’s elite sides in the Women’s Champions League and the club will look to capitalise on the excitement.

The club announced on Friday that one of their group stage fixtures against Chelsea, Real Madrid or FC Twente will take place at Celtic Park.

Earlier this afternoon it was confirmed that Elena Sadiku’s side will make New Douglas Park in Hamilton their new permanent home on matchdays, moving from the Albert Bartlett Stadium in Airdrie.

There were concerns that the club wouldn’t look to utilise Paradise for one of their big European matches as a result but thankfully this afternoon’s announcement now presents the opportunity for fans to support the Ghirls in a big way.

Bumper support can be a big boost for Celtic FC Women

Towards the tail-end of the 2022/23 campaign, we witnessed some fantastic record-breaking crowds at Celtic Park with fan groups utilising the Jock Stein Stand to attract thousands to matches.

Although that was in part to promote ‘The Celtic End’ project, the support was an undoubted boost for the Ghirls and it’d be fantastic to see those kinds of scenes make a return.

It remains to be seen whether the club will facilitate that but, hopefully, common sense can prevail and the club work with fan groups to get as many supporters into the stadium as possible.

Celtic leading the way in Europe on three fronts

After brilliant starts for Celtic in the Champions League and the U19s side in the UEFA Youth League, witnessing the women’s side follow that up with their own European excellence is superb.

All aspects of the club are firing on all cylinders right now.

There’s little doubt that Elena Sadiku’s side will find it tough against English champions Chelsea, as well as Real Madrid and Twente, but with belief at an all-time high and backed by bumper support, they won’t be ruling anything out in this group stage, with a place in the quarter-finals at stake.
