Rangers have been beaten 2-0 by Glasgow City at home in the SWPL this evening, confirming Celtic FC Women’s leapfrogging of our rivals.
As we discussed earlier, Celtic beat Motherwell 3-0 at K-Park this afternoon to move temporarily into second place ahead of the big game between City and Rangers.
It was an excellent win, the sixth in a row for Fran Alonso’s outfit.
The position change is not so temporary anymore either, with Celtic now guaranteed to end the weekend’s action in second place, one point ahead of Rangers and five points behind the league leaders.
It means Celtic are right in the hunt for a Champions League position next season. The eventual champions and runners-up earn a place in the first round of the 2021/22 tournament.
Alonso’s team also have a massive chance to close the gap on Glasgow City this week. They play at home to the dominant Glasgow side on Wednesday night.
With Celtic confidence at a high, they’ll fancy their chances of picking up a huge result.
Celtic were impressive in the first half against ‘Well today. In the second half there was room to rest some key players and give fringe talents some much-needed game time.
It was the perfect preparation for the mid-week battle.

However, City have already beaten Celtic twice this season, the only side to have defeated them in league action.
It’s all promising to be one of the most exciting conclusions to the SWPL ever, with Rangers undoubtedly not giving up the fight either.
