New Celtic Women signing, Luana Muñoz has opened up on why she took the leap to leave Argentina and make the move to Glasgow to join Celtic.
The Argentinian international defender signed for Celtic at the beginning of July and said that the opportunity to play for Fran Alonso‘s side was one that she just couldn’t say no to.
Muñoz said [Celtic YouTube], “Celtic is a huge club, which has a lot of stories, you know. It’s playing at a high level in talking about how this club is from Europe and having that opportunity. And when I got this opportunity, I couldn’t say no. I wanted to go there and want to play for the club because it’s huge.
“When you get an opportunity from a club like I said is huge and they play high-level tournaments and even the Champions League. Of course, it brings you more desire to come and play and test yourself because this is what I’m going to be doing.
“This is a new opportunity in my life, a new chapter, and I’m really excited to be here.”
Muñoz began her career at River Plate in 2013. The 24-year-old spent two seasons at the club before moving on to UAI Urquiza. The defender spent just one season at the Furgonero when she was picked up by Racing before getting her big move to Celtic this month.
Having just won one cap at full international level for Argentina, Muñoz’ international career began in 2014 where she represented her country at the South American u20 Women’s Championship.
Her full senior debut didn’t come along until February 2019 when she faced South Korea in a 5-0 friendly loss. Now at Celtic, Muñoz will be hoping to add more caps to her name and win the first piece of silverware of her career as the Ghirls face Partick Thistle in the semi-final of the Glasgow Cup tomorrow night.
