Fans made it clear they are fully behind the Celtic FC Women team at Paradise this afternoon despite last-minute title agony in SWPL 1.

A stoppage-time Glasgow City goal against Rangers denied the Ghirls their first-ever Scottish league crown, having done their own job with a 2-0 victory over Hearts at Celtic Park.

After the match, Fran Alonso, his coaching staff and the squad took a bow in front of ‘The Celtic End’, with thousands of supporters showing love with applause and chants. Footage has been uploaded by outlet PLZ Soccer which you can see embedded below or via this link.

Celtic FC Women capture fan imagination

This squad really have managed to find wide support amongst the Celtic fans as Scottish women’s football goes from strength to strength. There were crowds of over 10,000 at both Ibrox and Celtic Park today. Paradise attracted over 15,000 in the end and the atmosphere was incredible for the entire 90 minutes.

It would be fantastic to see another bumper support turnout for the Scottish Women’s Cup final against Rangers next Sunday, too. That one is at Hampden and Celtic are defending the trophy having beat Glasgow City in a famous Tynecastle final last season.

This season can still end up being a winning one for the squad. A derby victory at the national stadium is the perfect way to end a campaign that nobody is going to forget in a hurry.

Next season is only going to get bigger and better for Alonso and his squad. With increasing backing from Celtic supporters, the squad have also qualified for the UEFA Women’s Champions League due to their second-place SWPL finish.

Recent attendances at Celtic Park have shown there is a big appetite for women’s football. It will hopefully lead to more opportunities for the team to play at Paradise in the future.

It’s onwards and upwards from here.
