Celtic B’s winless streak in the Premier League International Cup continued on Wednesday night with a 3-1 defeat away to Chelsea’s U21s side.

Jimmy-Jay Morgan opened the scoring for the hosts after just eight minutes before Daniel Cummings struck at the start of the second half to bring things level.

Zain Silcott-Duberry found the winner for Chelsea after 58 minutes and despite a spirited showing from the Young Hoops, the London club managed to hold on for the victory and added to their advantage with a 90th-minute third from Morgan.

Celtic have been officially knocked out of the youth tournament with no way for them to progress to the quarter-finals after previous defeats against West Ham United and Brighton.

West Ham won by a massive 5-0 margin back in September while Brighton denied the Bhoys a massive comeback in a 4-3 win late last month.

One fixture remains for the Celtic youngsters before signing off from Group B. Darren O’Dea and Stephen McManus will bring their squad to Hampshire in January for their fourth and final match against English opposition.

These fixtures are all about player development and performance but the Bhoys will be keen to ensure they don’t finish the group without picking up a point.

Improvement needed in second half of season for Celtic B

It’s been a disappointing season so far for the Academy side having also finished bottom of their UEFA Youth League group.

They are also struggling to pick up momentum in the Scottish Lowland Football League, currently sitting in 10th position after 17 matches.

That competition will now be the main focus for the rest of the season and there are two league matches to get to grips with before the end of the calendar year – an away trip to Caledonian Braves and a home clash against Gretna 2008.

They’ll be looking to make a push up the table, also holding games in hand on teams directly above them.

With talents such as Mitchel Frame involved and keen to impress manager Brendan Rodgers, the youngsters must stay professional, keep working hard and put this latest setback behind them.

In other news, The UEFA Champions League will now never be the same again for Celtic.
