Celtic have announced that 20-year-old defender Bosun Lawal has committed his next three years to the Bhoys and will now spend a season out on loan at Fleetwood Town.
Lawal has signed a contract until the summer of 2026 but will make the temporary switch to English League One to continue his development under former club captain Scott Brown.
It’s a clear sign that Celtic see a big future for the centre-back. And Brown thinks he can help improve the player to the extent he can push a way into Brendan Rodgers’ plans next season.
The former midfielder said [Fleetwood Town]: “Bosun wants to come to Fleetwood and that was a huge factor in bringing him in. It’s also the fact that he’s a good person, and player, and has a lot of pace.
“He’s very good with the ball on the floor and can start attacks for us. With the way we want to play, we don’t want too many mistakes at the back so we’re happy to welcome him in.
“He’s young and learning the game at the same time so it will be a great opportunity for him to come here on his first loan and show what he’s all about. We just need to make sure that Bosun goes back to Celtic better so they can get into Brendan’s squad.”

The defender was already on the fringes of the senior set-up at Lennoxtown, training consistently with the first team and joining them on trips to Portugal and Japan over the summer. Rodgers got a good look at his ability and potential.
It’ll be interesting to watch Lawal’s progress in English football over the next 9 months, with fellow Celt Adam Montgomery also being put through his paces by Brown.
The former Celtic captain was no doubt a big draw in attracting them to Fleetwood and they’ll now get a chance to improve and learn from one of the most decorated players in the Bhoys’ long history.
In other news, Celtic take pleasing strong stance after yet more nonsense from Rangers.
