Celtic duo Ben Summers and Matthew Anderson are enjoying themselves out on loan in Austria.

The Bhoys have a formal link-up with second-tier side Admira Wacker and have sent several talents to the club for first-team football over the last couple of seasons.

Summers is the latest, and the midfielder has taken his big opportunity to impress after making his debut on Friday night away to SV Stripfing.

The Celtic talent scored his team’s opening goal in a 2-0 victory, with the second effort coming from another Bhoys loanee – Matthew Anderson.

Celtic connection paying off for Admira Wacker

Anderson is already firmly established in the team, having also spent last season on loan at the club. He’s now made 27 appearances in total, scoring two goals and assisting seven times from the left flank.

Summers will likely now get that chance to play regularly over the coming weeks after showing he can make the required midfield impact on his debut.

Both players are still just 20 and are highly thought of within the Celtic set-up, so if they continue to shine, Pathway Manager Darren O’Dea will notice.

Austrian side ‘convinced’ young Bhoys can perform

Last month, Admira Wacker sporting director Peter Stoger said of the Celtic pair: “Matthew and Ben are two highly talented players who have been able to gain high-level experience at a young age.

“Matthew has already shown us what’s in it last season, and we’re happy to have him back with us. Ben brings a breath of fresh air to the offensive midfield and will give us new opportunities in the design of the game.

“We are convinced that both players will take our team significantly further this season.”

It’s a big season for both as Celtic prepare to decide on their long-term futures. Anderson’s contract is due to expire in 2025, and Summers is signed up until 2026.

Hopefully they can continue to do the business and stake a claim to be involved within Brendan Rodgers’ senior group.
