Rocco Vata scored his fifth goal in four games for Celtic B this afternoon but it wasn’t enough for the young Hoops to earn a victory, losing 2-1 away to Berwick Rangers.
As the B team transition away from last season’s core group and key prospects such as Bosun Lawal and Ben Summers move out on loan, it’s been difficult to find consistency in the early part of the campaign.
The Bhoys find themselves in 11th position in the table with seven points from six Lowland League matches and have a power of work to do to get back on track.
Hearts B, in comparison, have 13 points on the board and sit in third after the same number of games.
Vata is at least continuing to show he has potential with some strong attacking form, adding his fifth goal in just a few weeks today.
That’s despite rumours he is on the verge of leaving the club for pastures new. Sky Sports reported earlier in the week that signing a new contract and heading out on loan doesn’t look like an option for the youngster, with teams across Europe keen on his permanent transfer.
Vata was involved with the first team last season and through the summer pre-season months, but doesn’t appear to be in the plans of Brendan Rodgers.

Other rated young prospects such as Mitchel Frame and Daniel Kelly were also in today’s team, so strong talent does remain involved working under Darren O’Dea and Stephen McManus and everyone will be hoping for a positive run of victories soon.
An away trip to East Kilbride is up next and that will be another tricky encounter, having been defeated by them in the SPFL Trust Trophy just a few weeks ago.
