Scottish Lowland League’s latest announcement reveals Celtic’s B team stance

Celtic have been criticised for not bringing enough youth players through the ranks into the first team recently.

The Hoops supporters have had to sit and watch top young talents leave Celtic and head for the English leagues as there has been no pathway into Brendan Rodgers’ first team.

Granted, some of these players will have also left for the hefty pay rise that English teams can offer but, in the main, there have not been enough youth players who have made the transition into the Celtic first-team squad.

One solution that was meant to fix that was by inserting the Celtic B team into the Scottish Lowland League to help the youngsters get used to playing in a competitive league.

That process started in 2021 but, as yet, the trickle of Celtic Academy players making it even close to the senior squad has been poor at best.

So the question remains, is it still worth having a young team compete in the fourth-tier of Scottish football?

The latest announcement from the Scottish Lowland League reveals all.

Scottish Lowland League confirm Celtic B participation in season 2025/26

The Scottish Lowland League released a statement on social media confirming all the sides who will be participating in the 2025/26 season.

Taking to X, the association posted:

Out of the Scottish top flight, only Celtic and Hearts will have a B team compete in the lower league competition.

The Hoops youngsters fared well last season finishing second, seven points behind winners, East Kilbride.

The young Celtic standouts from Lowland League 2024/25 season

The young Celtic B side delivered a fair few thrashings in the Lowland League beating the likes of Broomhill and East Kilbride 5-1 and Gretna and Civil Service Strollers 7-0.

Celtic B’s biggest-ever win in the competition was the 10-0 battering of Vale of Leven in 2021 but last season, there were a few young talents that have stood out.

The trickle of players making the step up needs to increase into a steady flow and Celtic fans will be hoping that another season in the Lowland League, however unlikely, may help that.
