Celtic prospect Rocco Vata has put all the recent transfer speculation behind him to score his seventh goal in six matches for the B team this afternoon.

Vata hit the back of the net after just four minutes, pushing the Bhoys towards a badly needed 2-1 victory over Albion Rovers in league action.

Mackenzie Carse was the other Celtic goalscorer after getting time to train with the first team through the week.

The squad coached by Darren O’Dea and Stephen McManus have had a very difficult start to the season as the group transitions away from talents who have now headed out on loan.

Today’s three points are crucial to helping get their Lowland League campaign back on track.

Even through some difficult results of late, Vata has been a star man and is now showing the kind of consistent goalscoring that he needs to convince his coaches of involvement with the senior team.

A recent report indicated Celtic are keen to open contract talks with the youngster despite all the interest in his services, having also knocked back a bid from English Premier League side Nottingham Forest.

It’s also said that the Bhoys are in the process of switching his position from a winger to a central striker. His recent finishing ability adds a bit of weight to that theory and it’ll be interesting to see how he progresses from here.

Vata’s long-term Celtic future is still in doubt because his contract expires at the end of this season. But if he can reach an agreement with the club, we could have an exciting prospect on our hands that is capable of making a push into the senior set-up.

In other news, Celtic have Champions League decisions to make as Monday deadline approaches.
