The 20-year-old ‘keeper joined Celtic at just 16 years old in 2019 and was signed by the club to join the academy with a view to being a first-team keeper of the future.

Prior to joining Celtic, he was initially with Tottenham Hotspur and has represented England at every international age group. He currently has one England u20 cap. [Celtic FC]

Oluwayemi made just two appearances for Cork. His debut was one to forget in a 2-1 loss to Bohemians in February as he fumbled a straightforward shot at goal which handed the victory to Bohemians.

But it was in his second game for the Irish side that things turned for the worse for the youngster. Oluwayemi picked up a groin injury in a 2-0 defeat to Derry City. The injury kept him out for the rest of the season and now he returns to Celtic this summer.

What does Tobi Oluwayemi’s Celtic future look like?

The youngster still has a year left on his contract so it will really depend on whether or not Brendan Rodgers sees him as a Celtic goalkeeper of the future.

There is no doubt that he is highly rated and has talent. You don’t represent your country at every level if you are not. But there is levels and challenges to becoming Celtic’s number one goalkeeper.

Obviously, at just 20 years of age, Oluwayemi still has a lot of developing to do and I believe that it would do no harm to extend his contract at the end of the season and continue working with him.

What he could learn from the likes of Joe Hart and Ben Siegrist could be invaluable to his development in the future.
