Video: Celtic prospect scores wonder goal on international duty
Celtic youngster Rocco Vata can’t stop scoring at the moment and his latest for the Republic of Ireland U17s was an absolute belter.
Vata has been in excellent form for Celtic B so far this season, regularly contributing goals and assists in the Scottish Lowland Football League. That form has ensured his inclusion in the Irish international set-up, who he created and scored a goal for last week.
Facing Macedonia last night, he took control of the ball 40 yards out on the right wing, surged towards the box and unleashed a shot from 20 yards that flew into the opposite top corner. The FAI posted highlights of the effort on social media.
Vata, son of Rudi, is still only 16 so there’s a long way to go with his development. However, he’s highly rated at Lennoxtown and is clearly one of the young players with a focus on him over the next couple of years.
He’s certainly not lacking in confidence either, going by his goals for club and country – which will serve him well in trying to adjust to the first-team squad.
After a successful ten-day stint with Ireland, Vata will now return to Scotland and to Tommy McIntyre’s squad.
The youths have a couple of weeks to prepare for their next test on 25th October but have a busy schedule between then and Christmas.
Vata will be eager to maintain his momentum, continue to show improvement and capture the attention of the Celtic support.
