Another upcoming Celtic clash could follow Motherwell pay-per-view example

Celtic’s trip to Motherwell this weekend won’t be shown on regular television.

Our visit to Fir Park hasn’t been selected for live coverage by Sky Sports. However, the home side will be showing the fixture via their pay-per-view website after moving the kick-off from 3pm to 12:30pm.

SPFL broadcasting rules allow clubs to make a selection of games available for pay-per-view, so long as they’re not shown by Sky and don’t fall between 2:45pm and 5:15pm on a Saturday.

It’s a little bit of a daft scenario. But, if both teams and the police agree, matches can be moved and offered to supporters.

While Celtic fans will be asked to stump up £15 for a match pass this weekend, it may not be the end of our pay-per-view frustrations. Looking at our upcoming schedule, there is another match that catches the eye.

Following our trip to Fir Park, our next Premiership away match is against Hearts. That fixture on Sunday 22 October has been chosen for Sky coverage and will kick-off at 2:15pm as a result.

However, our visit to Hibernian the following weekend won’t be shown by the broadcasters. For some reason, they have overlooked the usually tasty Hibs vs Celtic fixture in favour of Kilmarnock vs Aberdeen the following day. (SPFL)

Our Easter Road clash is currently down for 3pm on Saturday 28 October. But that could change if Hibernian take a leaf out of Motherwell’s book.

With agreement from Celtic and the authorities, the Leith side could move that game to a time which allows pay-per-view broadcasting. They have previous for doing that, after bringing an Edinburgh Derby against Hearts forward in March (The Herald)

With the green pound on offer, in more ways than one, this could be one to watch.
