Barry Robson states what Aberdeen will never be able to do at Parkhead after Celtic 2-2 draw

Celtic were left frustrated after they let a two-goal lead slip to draw 2-2 against Aberdeen at Parkhead on Saturday.

Aberdeen are challenging Celtic for the Premiership title, how long that lasts remains to be seen, but so far, they are a huge threat and Brendan Rodgers has something else to think about.

Just maybe, he would have been expecting Rangers to be knocking on the title door or even lurking around the corner.

But Rangers’ defeat to Kilmarnock on Sunday means that they are now six points behind the top two.

Before a ball was kicked in Paradise, many were hoping for the table – seven wins in seven for both – to match the game, but given that this is the champions, it doesn’t always work out that way, especially on their own patch.

Celtic delivered the entertainment, especially in the first half, as they raced into a 2-0 lead, but then the opposition put their foot on the accelerator and caused the double-winners many problems.

That’s where the two goals were scored and, in the end, Celtic’s draw against Aberdeen felt like a defeat and you couldn’t argue.

Whilst Aberdeen spooked Celtic with their game plan, they were sent a pretty blunt and straightforward message by Barry Robson.

He stated that the Dons will ‘never’ be able to control a match against Celtic at Parkhead and he described the importance of being ‘aggressive’ and ‘picking the right moments’, as he told Sportscene.

The home team had close to 70% possession of the ball, with 32 shots at goal, seven on target to Aberdeen’s eight shots at goal.

“You will never control it, as a team like Aberdeen going there,” said Robson. “You are never going to go to get 60% possession, it’s never going to happen.

“But how aggressive are you in the transition? Can you pick the right moments and expose them? And Aberdeen did it perfectly.”

The new man at Aberdeen is getting a lot of plaudits for how he has started life in Scotland, but he has also remained humble after the game.

Jimmy Thelin spoke highly about the difficulty of facing Rodgers’ side and also the ‘amazing’ atmosphere created, as posted by Aberdeen on Twitter.

Not many play a risky game at Celtic, but there is now a team going down that road and adding a bit of spice to this title race.

“It was an amazing atmosphere,” said Thelin. “It was a really emotional game. We said at half-time, we have to calm down a little and come back to our strategy. We needed to find a way and to do that was to be a little more true to ourselves.

“These games are important and difficult. They are going to test us in every area of our game. The most important thing is that we stick together inside games and find ways to perform well. I’m happy with that.”
