BBC reporter spots why Brendan Rodgers showed ‘frustration’ when Celtic were 2-2 with Aston Villa

Brendan Rodgers could hardly have been more pleased on Wednesday evening.

The Celtic manager beamed with pride at his squad despite defeat to Aston Villa in their matchday eight clash in the Champions League.

The Irishman applauded his players for their bravery as Adam Idah hit a deadly double to roar back from two early goals down only for Ollie Watkins to miss a contentious penalty then score before Morgan Rogers completed a hat-trick.

Rogers praised Celtic’s fans for bringing the atmosphere and it was an overall fine evening in the West Midlands despite the result.

But there was one moment during the action where a BBC Sportsound journalist found the Hoops manager showing his “frustration” at his team.

Perfectionist Rodgers was annoyed at slack Celtic passing

It was 2-2 at the break, incredibly, following the pulsating first-45 of chaos but Celts found themselves with their backs against the wall after the restart in a somewhat similar scenario to the beginning of the game.

And that is seemingly where journo Nick Mashiter suggested there was a hint of distress from Rodgers in the away dugout.

From BBC’s live updates during the match, Mashiter made the comment.

He posted: “Celtic have been under pressure since the restart and Brendan Rodgers does not like what he sees as another pass goes astray as he throws his arms up in the air in frustration.”

It would have been understandable from the gaffer to grow irked by the players handing possession away considering how well they had done to claw the game back to give themselves a fighting chance.

Not the first time Rodgers shows Celtic anger this season

However, even in moments of success this season, perfectionist Rodgers has found himself furious at the smallest slip-up from his team – no pun intended.

Earlier this term Rodgers was livid during his side’s Premier Sports Cup semi-final mauling of Aberdeen at Hampden Park.

Despite being comfortably 3-0 up and running riot just before the break in that one, a misplaced pass send Rodgers into a rage and he took a tumble to the deck as he leathered the ball into the air in anger.

Rodgers was booked in the moment but would share a chuckle with the referee over the incident.
