BBC stats back up Chris Sutton’s scathing first-half criticism of Celtic vs Rangers

Chris Sutton was scathing in his criticism of Celtic after the Parkhead club’s first-half capitulation against Rangers at Ibrox.

Celtic’s draw with Rangers was mostly caused by an inept first 35 minutes of the game, as a double from Yousaf Chermiti sealed the three points despite a second-half attempt at a fightback by the Hoops.

Kieran Tierney pulled a goal back early in the second half and a Reo Hatate late penalty rescued a point, but it wasn’t enough to win the game as Sutton slammed Celtic for taking a first-half ‘mauling’ at the hands of Rangers.

Chris Sutton slams Celtic as BBC post the derby stats vs Rangers

Sutton was on Sky Sports duty but it was the BBC who posted the Celtic hero’s criticism as he said, “The first 35 minutes have been an absolute mauling.”

And no sooner had Sutton shared his thoughts, the national broadcaster fired out the stats that should embarrass Celtic, who are trying to defend their title this season.

The BBC posted:

A shameful first half, in one of the worst Celtic performances at Ibrox for over five years.

Celtic’s next three fixtures as Hearts pull away and Rangers bottle it

Celtic’s next three fixtures are so important, now that a serious gap has opened up at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.

After the draw with Rangers, this is what lies ahead for Martin O’Neill and the Parkhead club.

With Motherwell breathing down Celtic’s neck in fourth place, O’Neill could be in the embarrassing position where, if the Bhoys drop more points, then the Fir Park club could leapfrog them in the table.

That would be the ultimate embarrassment and would also heap more pressure on the Celtic board, who will feel the backlash should the Hoops finish outside the top two places this season.
