Celtic player ratings vs Rangers as super subs keep faint title hopes alive

Add as preferred source on Google

Celtic’s title hopes hang in the balance after they came from two goals down to draw 2-2.

The Hoops were second best from minute one in the Glasgow derby and found themselves two goals down at the break.

Martin O’Neill made changes at the break and they looked like a different side after the break as Kieran Tierney pulled one back 10 minutes into the half with a delicate header from Benjamin Nygren’s cross.

With minutes to go, Celtic were awarded a penalty after Daizen Maeda’s header hit Dujon Sterling’s hand. Reo Hatate’s penalty was saved by Jack Butland, and then his initial follow-up was also stopped before scoring at the third try. With that, 67 Hail Hail has rated the performance of each player.

Celtic player ratings

Viljami Sinisalo – 4

Hard to blame Viljami Sinisalo for anything that has happened this afternoon. He was let down by his teammates.

Julian Araujo – 4

Misjudged the direction of the ball for Rangers’ second goal and was denied any chance of getting up the pitch to try and help in the attacking department.

Dane Murray – 3

Another big game and another mistake from the defender. He wasn’t the only one and shouldn’t be singled out, but he can’t be trusted.

Liam Scales – 4

Struggled at the back in the first half and left Youssef Chermiti wide open for his bicycle kick but given that Celtic were more attacking after the break,

Kieran Tierney – 5

Got the Hoops back into the tie with a header early into the second half but defensively struggled.

Callum McGregor (C) – 3

Overran in midfield once again and couldn’t compete with the Rangers players dominating. It is so obvious he needs more support.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – 3

For a player who has competed at the highest level in some of the highest-pressure games, he looked so far off the pace. Gave away the ball all the time and was unable to match the speed of the game.

Benjamin Nygren – 5

Fantastic assist for Tierney’s goal and proof that when you get him on the ball, make things happen.

Hyunjun Yang – 3

Not one of his best games in a Celtic shirt. Very quiet and didn’t offer anything.

Junior Adamu – 3

Can feel hard done by to have been withdrawn at half time as he was given no chance by any of his teammates to make an impact. No service, no hope.

Daizen Maeda – 2

He’s had enough chances and now it is time for Daizen Maeda to be dropped. Another tepid display.

Why do you think Celtic managers are so insistent on playing Daizen Maeda despite his form?

Substitutes

Sebastian Tounekti – 5

A real bright spark when he came on at the break. Made it a nightmare for Dujon Sterling and tried everything he could to get something for Celtic.

Reo Hatate – 6

In fairness to him, he made sure he was involved in the game and teed up plenty of chances for his attacking department and he just about squeezed home an equaliser.

Marcelo Sarrachi – 4

Came on to provide more attacking options for Celtic, albeit from the full-back role.

Luke McCowan – 4

Was unfortunate to not earn a start after impressing in Germany but did well on the right before shifting out to the middle.

James Forrest – 5

Provided a brilliant cross for the handball incident.
