Brendan Rodgers has provided an update on new signing Jahmai Simpson-Pusey.

Celtic confirmed the addition of Simpson-Pusey earlier in the week after he agreed to join on loan until the end of the season.

Pep Guardiola is a huge fan of the 19-year-old and he has linked up with the Celtic squad, training with his new teammates.

With a packed fixture schedule coming up, starting with Aberdeen on Sunday, Brendan Rodgers will need everyone to be ready.

Jahmai Simpson-Pusey won’t play against Aberdeen

Although the centre-back has been spotted in training with the Hoops, Rodgers admitted that this weekend’s game will come too soon for the new signing and that he will need time to get up to speed.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “He’s a little bit away in fairness to Jahmai.

“He’s been training with the small group at Manchester City and isn’t quite up to speed yet.

“You can see his quality straightaway and it’s just going to take a bit of time in terms of his fitness and the intensity.”

Simpson-Pusey is expected to play a key part in a long season and when asked what supporters can expect from their new addition, Rodgers said: “He’s a young player but got good experience.

“He’s at Manchester City for a reason. Has good pace, a good defender and impressive in the air.

“We play in a really progressive way and he is a young player who can help with our squad.”
