Celtic’s pursuit of Man City defender Jehmai Simpson-Pusey has hit the headlines this week.
The 19-year-old centre-back has been linked with a move to Celtic as Man City fans reacted positively to the news that the young defender might be on the move.
Simpson-Pusey has made just six first-team appearances for Man City but it appears that he has impressed people at Celtic.
And it seems that what Pep Guardiola once said about the young defender after a defeat to Matt O’Riley’s Brighton last season should excite Celtic supporters.

Pep Guardiola once called Celtic target Simpson-Pusey ‘unbelievable’ at Man City
Simpson-Pusey played the full 90 minutes of his English Premier League debut and despite the defeat, Guardiola was over the moon with the Man City youngster.
Guardiola told One Football back in November 2024, “The guy played really good, the young lad again, with this composure and duels and everything was good. It’s not easy for him.
“Normally the young lads, they must come in with support from the team, with Rodri in front of them, right?
“With the best Kyle [Walker], and defenders, and now we support him.
“Now he’s playing in a position that is difficult for him but he performed unbelievable.
“We have a central defender to help us for the future, for the next years. I’m really pleased. Always there is good news when the situation goes bad, and this is one of them.”
What happened the last time Celtic signed a Man City defender on loan
Celtic have loaned a number of players from Man City over the years as the connection to the City Group benefits both clubs.
Patrick Roberts was a hit as he terrorised SPFL defences for Celtic in Brendan Rodgers’ first tenure at Celtic.
However, you need to go back to 2014 to find the last defender Celtic signed from Man City who was a complete success at the club.
Jason Denayer spent a full season on loan at Celtic and partnered Virgil van Dijk in the heart of the Hoops defence.
The Belgian impressed, won a league and cup double and was then loaned out to Galatasaray and Sunderland before making a permanent move to Lyon.
Denayer is now at Saudi Arabian club Al Fateh after being without a club for almost a full year.
