Celtic fans will need to wait a wee bit longer to see Alistair Johnston after he was left out of Brendan Rodgers’s matchday squad against Dundee.

Celtic’s starting XI and the bench was missing the Canadian fullback after Rodgers opted to start Anthony Ralston for the trip to Dens Park.

The Celtic manager said he was ‘hopeful’ that Johnston would be ready for Dundee but to not make the bench will be a worry for the Hoops support.

And here, Rodgers explains why he decided to leave out the international fullback as the Celtic manager spoke to the media prior to kick-off.

Brendan Rodgers says ‘hopefully’ Alistair Johnston will return for Celtic soon

Rodgers spoke to the BBC just before Celtic’s kick-off at Dundee and gave an update on the Hoops fullback.

Rodgers told BBC Radio Scotland, “We assessed him, he just still felt a little bit tight coming back into training over the last few days.

“Hopefully he won’t be too far away from Thursday.”

For now, all Celtic fans will be concerned about is getting the three points at Dundee and closing that gap to Hearts at the top of the league.
