Brendan Rodgers has named his Celtic starting XI to face Bayern Munich in the second leg of the Champions League playoff.
The Celtic manager is hoping to pull off what looks like a seemingly impossible task and beat a Bundesliga club for the first time ever in Germany by two clear goals to progress into the Champions League last 16.
And to create that piece of history, here is the Celtic starting XI Rodgers believes can do that.

Celtic starting XI to face Bayern Munich in Champions League
- Celtic starting XI: Schmeichel, Schlupp, Trusty, Carter-Vickers, Johnston, McGregor (c), Engels, Hatate, Maeda, Kuhn, Jota
- Substitutes: Sinisalo, Bain, Ralston, Idah, Yang, Scales, Taylor, Nawrocki, McCowan, Kenny, Bonnar, Murray
Rodgers has gone full strength for the task of beating Bayern and has made two changes from the Celtic team that lost to Bayern at Parkhead just six days ago.
Jeffrey Schlupp gets the nod ahead of Greg Taylor after the Ghanaian’s solid performance in the win over Dundee United.
The big call is that Maeda starts for Celtic and leads the line after the Japanese winger caused the German defence all sorts of problems in the final stages of the Parkhead defeat. Adam Idah takes a seat on the Celtic bench.
Celtic’s bench vs Bayern Munich could prove crucial
Rodgers has plenty of options to come off the bench if the Hoops boss requires them with Celtic hero, Adam Idah, fit and available to take the lead up front later in the game.
Luke McCowan or Paulo Bernardo could help shore up the midfield if needed with Liam Scales and Maik Nawrocki offering solidity at the back.
No doubt tonight’s game will be a huge challenge for Celtic and Rodgers but all the fans ask is that the players leave everything on the pitch and do the club proud.
