Brendan Rodgers pays Kyogo the ultimate compliment after the Celtic striker’s Pittodrie goal

Kyogo Furuhashi has undoubtedly been one of Celtic’s most consistent performers over the last two seasons.

The Japanese striker has been a vital component in the club’s recent successes and it looks like he will continue to be under the new manager, Brendan Rodgers.

Kyogo notched his second goal of the season after he rifled home Celtic’s second against Aberdeen at Pittodrie as the Hoops sealed a 3-1 win this afternoon.

Brendan Rodgers was asked his opinion on Kyogo in a post-match interview and he waxed lyrical about the talisman’s contribution to Celtic’s win.

Rodgers said [Celtic TV], “What we’ve tried to do is add variety to his game. You can see on the last line he’s very good, he can go in behind and obviously we’ve tried to include him more in the build-up phase that will hopefully create space especially when teams are man-marking you.

“But his finish was sublime. He is clever, he’s very cute in the game. He’s an elite player in terms of his movement and his runs. And he played the offside really well.

“And that’s what you do as a striker. You tell your strikers don’t be in a rush back now because the rules have changed.

“And they [Aberdeen] obviously headed it back, he’s had his touch and it’s a fantastic finish. And it was a good time for us to score as well, especially not long after them equalising.”

An elite player. That truly is a brilliant compliment coming from a manager who has coached the likes of Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho.

Kyogo is an exceptional striker. The way he leads the line for Celtic and uses his intuition to create space and open up defences for himself and his teammates is truly something to behold.

If Rodgers can improve and develop the Celtic striker even further, then the defences in Scotland are in for a torrid time this season.
