Brendan Rodgers has revealed the positions in which he hopes to strengthen his Celtic squad in January.

The Hoops already have a strong, deep playing staff with their Champions League exploits and Scottish Premiership lead proving just that.

Yet when the window opens next week, the manager is hopeful of adding fresh faces to his set-up at Lennoxtown for the rest of the season run-in where there is still two trophies to seal and a playoff knockout spot up for grabs in Europe.

The boss knows his squad inside out and has now explained exactly where he wants to bolster his numbers.

And it is in the attacking areas.

Winger Michel-Ange Balikwisha has been linked in recent weeks from Royal Antwerp while we at 67 Hail Hail told you Mathias Kvistgaarden was still on the radar up front.

Now Rodgers has made it clear he wants attacking players, perhaps those mentioned above, to help his team find more success this term.

Brendan Rodgers wants more attackers in the January window

“We need more,” Rodgers told BBC Sportsound.

“It’s not just for now it’s for our future so we always look to add to our attacking intent.

“Especially January always gives you the opportunity to do that and I think being able to add goal threats to the team is important.

“We did it last January with Nicolas Kuhn and Adam Idah came in and made a big difference for us. Especially Adam at that time was a real catalyst for us.

“So I always think adding goals and creativity and that’s something that hopefully we’ll be able to do in January.”

What Rodgers said about Celtic spending big money

Rodgers also made it clear he was not particularly interested in the financial questions on any potential signing.

And he hinted that the Celtic board would spend what they had to in order to get the right man in the door.

“Is there extra ambition in the window? Not an extra level, we just want good players.

“A good player might be £1million. Might be £2m, might be £6-7m.

“The support is there to get the right player, not just about getting an expensive one. We’re all in sync and know what our plan is. If we can do that in January it’ll great and a real boost for the squad.”
