Brendan Rodgers’ selection headache, James Forrest’s worries, three things we learned as Celtic thump Aberdeen

Celtic put in a five-star performance as they beat Aberdeen at Pittodrie.

In a warm-up for the Scottish Cup final showdown on May 24 it will be Celtic who are licking their lips for the tie at Hampden Park.

Brendan Rodgers’ side took the lead through Maik Nawrocki before goals from Hyun-jun Yang, Luke McCowan, Johnny Kenny and then Adam Idah in the final minute of second half stoppage time wrapped up a comfortable win.

Even though Rodgers heavily rotated, it was clear to see the strength in depth Celtic have amongst their ranks and the Bhoys will be in party spirit ahead of the final game of the Scottish Premiership season at Parkhead this weekend.

After the comfortable win on Wednesday night, here’s three things 67 Hail Hail learned from it.

Brendan Rodgers has been given a selection headache for the Scottish Cup final

Before kick off, the Celtic manager would’ve been almost 100 per cent certain on what his team would look like for the cup final in just over a week’s time.

However, a spanner has been thrown in the works as Maik Nawrocki delivered a stellar performance.

Nawrocki has only had just over 200 minutes of action and not been seen since the win against Hearts, in which he also impressed in.

Not only did he open the scoring, he defended exceptionally and with neither one of Liam Scales and Auston Trusty looking comfortable next to Cameron Carter-Vickers, the Polish centre-back could force his way into the XI.

James Forrest is trying too hard to score for Celtic

Time is running out for James Forrest to get that illustrious goal that will see him amongst the goal records for 16 straight seasons.

There’s only two games left and so far, Forrest is yet to get off the mark, but he has had ample opportunities and seems to be overthinking it.

He squandered a great chance in the first half, scuffing his effort and then had another shot well saved after the break.

Forrest did get two assists in the game but if he can relax and remain composed – he will get that goal.

Celtic should avoid signing Jeffrey Schlupp permanently

Jeffrey Schlupp endured a frustrating night as the left-back against Aberdeen and was at fault for Kevin Nisbet’s equaliser, barely leaving the ground to make a challenge to head it away.

Schlupp was also beaten by Shayden Morris several times and didn’t offer much from an attacking sense – bar blazing a shot over the bar.

With Kieran Tierney returning to Celtic this summer and Greg Taylor’s future still uncertain, it’s fair to say that Schlupp would be out of the picture if those two were already in place and the Bhoys should look at other targets instead of the loanee in their transfer plans.
