Cameron Carter-Vickers will be the first to admit that he didn’t have his best game in a Celtic jersey against Rangers at the weekend.

The Glasgow Derby has been dominated by Celtic in recent years but over the last three fixtures, the Ibrox club have won the last two and also took Brendan Rodgers’ side to penalties in the League Cup final.

Many people are questioning the Celtic players’ mindset as claims are made that the Parkhead side are not at their best due to the gap at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.

But that is being rejected by Celtic hero Cameron Carter-Vickers who says that whilst he and his teammates are ‘aware’ of the gap it’s still not acceptable to lose games of football.

Carter-Vickers rejects what he’s hearing about Celtic’s ‘mindset’

Carter-Vickers told The Mirror [print edition page 38], “I mean, it’s a position you want to be in. You want to be as many points ahead as you can be.

“That doesn’t mean that you can lose games of football. We know that. We never want to lose, and we always go out there to try and win and perform well. But yeah, that’s just it really.

“I don’t think there’s really a mindset switch from us at all. We’re aware of the points gap, but we want to add to that if anything. But obviously, that wasn’t the case.”

Brendan Rodgers’ halftime message almost inspired big Celtic comeback vs Rangers

With the Bhoys trailing 2-0 at halftime against Rangers, Carter-Vickers shared what the Celtic manager told the players that almost inspired a famous win.

Carter-Vickers continued, “Obviously, we’ve got a comfortable lead in the table, and that’s good. That shows the good work we’ve done so far up to this point.

“But we definitely want to continue until the end of the season. Obviously, the manager told us how he felt about the game.

“At half-time, he said it wasn’t good enough. Second half, a bit better. Obviously scored two goals. But to concede at the end it was obviously disappointing.”

With two weeks before the domestic scene starts again, Celtic fans have an international break to contend with.

With Hearts up next at Celtic Park, Rodgers can help heal the pain of the derby win with a comprehensive win against the capital club and take the fans one step closer to their fourth title win in a row.
