Celtic supporters are growing more and more impressed with defender Carl Starfelt.
The Swedish international was one of the best performers against St Johnstone at Celtic Park this afternoon as the Bhoys ran out 2-0 winners.
Starfelt wasn’t tested to the extremes of his defensive capabilities but was very tidy indeed, winning many headers and duels, as well as passing the ball accurately. The visitors didn’t get a sniff against him.

There’s no doubt that the defender had a difficult start to life at Celtic. He looked nervous and unsure of the system he was being asked to play in.
However, now, he looks very much at home in Ange Postecoglou’s team. Most importantly he looks capable of combining with his goalkeeper and defensive partner in possession. That recycling of the ball is much improved, adding to the other impressive defensive aspects to his game.
It’s still early days for everyone in this Celtic team and the unit as a whole. However, you can’t deny that improvement is happening in front of our eyes.
Starfelt and Carter-Vickers are almost certain to start together regularly for at least another month with Christopher Jullien not expected back in a Celtic shirt until late November. It’s looking like a very functional partnership and one which will be hard to shift.
Celtic have the best defensive record in the Scottish Premiership. Given the amount of nonsense that has been spoken about this team and manager, that’s worth pointing out.
Starfelt is playing a big part.
