Celtic’s upcoming trip to Ross County in the Premiership will be remaining in a weekend slot.
For just the second time in eight seasons, we won’t be featuring in the latter rounds of the League Cup. Our surprise loss to Kilmarnock last month had us out of the competition in the round of 16. We must now watch on with the unusual feeling of envy.
You may have noticed that the quarter-finals of the competition took place this midweek. Hearts, Hibernian, Rangers and Aberdeen all progressed to the semis, with the latter impacting our fixture schedule.
Had the Dons exited to Ross County on Wednesday night, the Highlanders would have had a semi-final on the weekend of November 4/5.
We are due to face them in Dingwall on Saturday 4, so that game would have been moved to a free midweek. It would have been an inconvenience for Celtic supporters who follow the team on the road to have to travel north during the week.
The team and broadcasters are also likely to be happier that it will be remaining at the weekend — with the 12:30pm kick-off already picked for live Sky Sports coverage.

Kilmarnock vs Motherwell will be the only other Premiership game taking place that weekend so we will have the chance to get some more big points on the board.
With a four-point lead already over our city rivals, the table could look even more favourable after that weekend.
Sure, we’d much rather be heading to Hampden. But let’s take the positives.
