Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers says side need to find ‘consistency’ ahead of title run-in

Celtic dropped points away to Aberdeen today as their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership table was cut to three points.

Dons striker Bojan Miovski scored an impressive opener just after half-time; however, Adam Idah and Nicolas Kuhn combined well 13 minutes later to salvage a 1-1 draw at Pittodrie.

The Hoops struggled to create many clear-cut chances in their search for a winner and will travel back to Glasgow feeling unfulfilled due to a disappointing outcome.

Fortunately, the gift of football is that there is always an opportunity to redeem yourself around the corner, which Brendan Rodgers’ side will be keen to do when they make the trip to face Hibernian on Wednesday.

Easter Road has proven to be the Irishman’s kryptonite when at Celtic, seeing as he has never actually won there in charge of the Scottish Premiership champions [Football Scotland].

Wednesday has the feel of a potentially season-defining game, and dropping the ball once again in midweek is unlikely to sit well with supporters.

Brendan Rodgers urges Celtic to find better ‘consistency’

In the league, Celtic have won 18, drawn four and lost two of their 24 fixtures, which does indicate a pattern of regular faltering that needs to be stamped out.

After his side’s draw against Aberdeen, Rodgers agreed that greater ‘consistency’ is needed if the Hoops are to win a third successive Scottish top-flight crown.

The 51-year-old stated [Glasgow Times]: “There’s still a long way to go and many points to fight for. We just have to focus on ourselves and find a greater consistency.”

He later added: “It’s just about finding a consistent level again because we’re dropping too many points.

“I’d never say a point here is a good result. I always come here to win, as I’ve always done as Celtic manager. I always expect to do that. I can never say I’ll take the point; I expect to win.”

Celtic have little margin for error across the title run-in

Celtic know they have little opportunity to slip up again during a run of congested fixtures as the title run-in starts to take shape.

Once in a while, failing to get over the line isn’t necessarily catastrophic in the context of a league season.

Nevertheless, there has been an undercurrent of inconsistent performances appearing in fits and spurts throughout this campaign, even if they have sometimes yielded the desired end result.

Looking forward, the Bhoys will need to learn their lesson, and hopefully, that can begin on Wednesday night in the capital.
