Martin O’Neill has confirmed Dane Murray could miss Celtic’s Scottish Cup clash with Rangers after injury forced the defender out of the Aberdeen win.

Initial reports suggested that the Celtic defender suffered an eye injury in the Pittodrie warm-up, but it seems that the issue could be more serious as O’Neill cleared up the mystery.

Speaking post-match, the Celtic manager confirmed that Murray suffered a ‘thigh’ issue and that it makes him a doubt for the Hoops’ trip to Rangers on Sunday.

Dane Murray’s ‘thigh’ problem that causes Celtic concern vs Rangers

Preparing for his second visit to Ibrox in a week, O’Neill confirms that Murray is a doubt for the Scottish Cup clash.

Pointing to his thigh, O’Neill told PLZ Soccer, “Dane said he felt his thigh, which is a concern for us, really. I would have to think he would be [a doubt for Rangers] at this minute.

“But we don’t know at this minute. He’s just come in. He’s been treated. He’ll obviously be in for treatment tomorrow morning, and we’ll see.

“But if you’re thinking about a thigh, I’m hoping that I’m not doom and gloom, but I would be concerned about it.”

Martin O’Neill’s saving Celtic grace for Rangers clash

As O’Neill laments another Celtic injury, the Hoops boss has at least two saving graces for the big Ibrox game.

Auston Trusty is available as his three-game ban only covers the Scottish Premiership and the American can be selected.

Benjamin Arthur now becomes a viable option for O’Neill after his man of the match performance in Celtic’s win at Aberdeen proves he has the mentality to produce.

While Murray will be a miss, as O’Neill says, it’s not all doom and gloom for Celtic.
