Adam Idah wouldn’t want to look back on his performance for Celtic against Hibernian, as the champions were beaten in Edinburgh.
Days after Celtic were booted out of the Champions League, Brendan Rodgers rang the changes to his XI and freshened things up after that gruelling trip to Munich that deserved so much more.
The changes were understandable because of how much the players put into the Bayern Munich game and, added to the fact that the champions play Aberdeen on Tuesday night, so the workload is still pretty heavy.
One of the players Rodgers brought back into the XI was Idah, as he replaced Jota and that meant Daizen Maeda going back to his usual left-sided role.
It didn’t help matters that a pumped-up Hibernian side opened the scoring inside two minutes, and by the time the half-time whistle was blown, those inside Easter Road were jumping with joy when VAR overturned an offside call to allow the home side’s second goal.
That put the cherry on top of the cake, in terms of it being Celtic’s worst 45 minutes so far this season and then a deserved defeat.

Celtic fans critical of Adam Idah’s display against Hibernian
The issue with Idah’s performance is that he was meant to be fresh because he didn’t start in Munich, so he was supposed to bring that extra bit of energy.
Instead, the Irishman was offside on occasions, which frustrated the fans and his decision-making didn’t help either.
Therefore, it wasn’t a surprise that he was subbed off at half-time, as the Celtic fans were asking for it on social media even before it happened.
@Hoidy thinks Idah wasn’t looking like himself: ‘Big Idah looks like he had more than the one beer on Tuesday night’.
@JRMartin1988 made it clear how Celtic need to set-up: ‘Schlupp and Jota on. Taylor and Idah off. Put Maeda through the middle’.
Those offside calls were annoying, @chrismac1888: ‘Idah, always in an offside position, does he know what offside is, needs replaced, Tayler sub him also’.
@Bricky67_ added: ‘Idah and Taylor off Schlupp and Jota on, it has to be’.
@sdceltic1 made it clear: ‘Take IDAH off get MAEDA thru middle , JOTA and SCHLUPP on, need to match physicality and add energy … we look ponderous’.
@huntsey1967 tells Idah to watch old Dembele videos: ‘Someone tell Adam idah he needs to start watching videos of dembele on how to handle the spfl and get wise so many times so slack and passive can’t do that as a celtic striker’.
Idah’s stats for Celtic against Hibernian
This isn’t a good look on Idah, mainly because Kyogo Furuhashi has left and he is now the only senior striker at the club.
Before this game, there was nothing much wrong with his form, but when you play for a pressure cooker of a club like Celtic, then it only takes one game for fans to get on your back and that was the case against Hibs.
He was rated under six by WhoScored.
| Shots | UnsTouches | Offsides | Passes | PA% | Aerials Won | Touches | Rating |
| 1 | 3 | 1 | 5 | 40 | 2 | 11 | 5.92 |
You suspect, with Celtic’s game against Aberdeen around the corner, then Idah will be back to the bench in midweek and Maeda will resume duties down the middle.
Although, rising star Johnny Kenny is also on the bench and perhaps it’s worth giving him a push during these coming weeks and months.
