Celtic’s dreadful first-half was enough for Hibs to gain all three points on a bitterly disappointing afternoon in Leith.
It was a horrible start for Celtic as they conceded inside two minutes with Auston Trusty, Callum McGregor and Greg Taylor all culpable for Josh Campbell’s opener.
Campbell then notched his second with a fine header that wasn’t defended well enough by both Taylor and Adam Idah.
The Hoops were sluggish all over the park and while they improved in the second period which included a Daizen Maeda goal, they left it too late to get anything out of the Premiership encounter.
After such a fantastic display against Bayern Munich on Tuesday, Celtic were the exact opposite in the capital as only a few players gained pass marks.
67 Hail Hail deliver you the Celtic player ratings vs Hibs below as the Hoops lost for just the second time in the league this season.
Celtic player ratings vs Hibs

Kasper Schmeichel – 5
Conceded twice but wasn’t at fault for either of the goals. Didn’t have too much else to do but made a good stop to deny Kieron Bowie.
Alistair Johnston – 6
Was presented with Celtic’s best chance of the first-half as his close-range shot was saved well by Jordan Smith.
Received treatment for a head knock and was at the centre of the controversy surrounding Celtic’s disallowed second goal when he was adjudged to have failed to keep the ball in when crossing for Daizen Maeda.
Cameron Carter-Vickers – 6
Started a little shaky but grew into the game and soon played like his assured, commanding self.
Auston Trusty – 4
Exposed for the opening Hibs goal as he left a gaping hole at the back for Josh Campbell to drive into and score. Was then culpable for Campbell’s header having played him well onside. Bad afternoon for the American.
Greg Taylor – 3
Didn’t narrow the gap to defend the first goal but wasn’t helped by Trusty’s decision to push up. Booked for a late challenge on Kieron Bowie and taken off at the interval for Jeffrey Schlupp. Awful day for the left-back.
Callum McGregor (C) – 5
Caught napping for Campbell’s goal as the Hibs midfielder ran in behind to convert past Schmeichel. Sluggish in possession and could have done better to block Martin Boyle’s cross for the second Hibs goal.
Luke McCowan – 5
The best passer of the ball for Celtic in the first-half and maybe a tad unlucky to be taken off at half-time for Reo Hatate.
Arne Engels – 6
Denied space and possession by a well drilled Hibs midfield and only had slightly more of an influence in the second period as Hibs sat off.
Daizen Maeda – 7
Caused Hibs a threat in behind with his tireless running. And that was how he got Celtic back into the game when he beat goalkeeper Smith to the ball at close-range to convert. Saw his second goal disallowed.
Nicolas Kuhn – 5
Always the out-ball for Celtic in the first-half as the German saw plenty of the ball on both wings. Never gave up but not his best display.
Adam Idah – 3
Looked well off the pace with some poor touches and decision-making. Failed to pick up Campbell in the box for the Hibs man’s headed goal. Shocking first-half led to being hooked at half-time.
Jeffrey Schlupp (sub) – 5
It’s simple – he’s a better quality option for the Hoops at left-back than Taylor. Much more physical and offers a greater attacking threat. You can tell who’s played in the Premier League between the pair.
Reo Hatate (sub) – 6
Offered an improvement on McCowan in the midfield as Celtic saw way more of the ball but did manage an unorthodox assist for Maeda’s goal.
Jota (sub) – 7
Brilliant substitute performance. Put in a number of dangerous crosses from the left and played a part in Celtic’s goal. Looked positive when sizing up Lewis Miller on the wing.
