Celtic fans make their feelings clear after Maik Nawrocki dropped for clash vs St Johnstone

Celtic and Brendan Rodgers only need two more wins to wrap up the Premiership title.

Rangers’ defeat to Hibernian on Saturday afternoon means that wins against St Johnstone and at home to Kilmarnock should do the trick.

But, ahead of the trip to Perth, Rodgers made some interesting calls to his starting XI, including bringing Auston Trusty back into the fold for Maik Nawrocki.

Trusty was recently injured, and he didn’t go on national duty during the recent break, but now that he is available, he is back in the Celtic XI.

This is despite Nawrocki putting in strong performances, including in the Glasgow derby against Rangers and the win against Hearts last time out.

But the call on Nawrocki has proved to be a talking point.

Celtic fans react to Auston Trusty replacing Maik Nawrocki for St Johnstone clash

You have got to feel for Nawrocki, he has hardly played since joining the club during the summer of 2023, yet when he does and is doing his talking on the pitch, he is then dropped.

It’s fair to say that this call from Rodgers hasn’t sat down well with the Celtic Park faithful, and they think this could now be the end of the road for the centre-back.

Many on social media expressed how it is ‘harsh’ to drop the 24-year-old because he simply didn’t deserve it.

@PaulC_1994 thinks this could be it for Nawrocki: ‘Probably won’t see Nawrocki again now watch this. The guy didn’t deserve to be dropped’.

@here_4_thebantz was another asking questions: ‘Who drop Nawrocki? He’s done well the last couple of games’.

@GregoryDaizen just had two words: ‘Poor maik’.

@AGCeltic2 with a bit of humour: ‘See you in December Nawrocki’.

@LewisJack2 also put forward his point: ‘Seriously harsh on Nawrocki’.

@BhoyinRed feels for Maik: ‘Justice for Nawrocki’.

@BernardoBhoy67 think Nawrocki’s time could be up: ‘That’s us never seeing nawrocki again’.

More questions raised, as @ryanbla1r added: ‘Nawrocki benched for what?’

@JasperWyllie compared Trusty and Nawrocki: ‘Trusty isn’t any better than Rocki and he’s certainly not 6 million quid better than Scales’.

@NalcedYellos is raging: ‘Disgrace that Maik has been dropped’.

@RabCorbett2 made a very good point: ‘I’m a firm believer if there’s a player in possession of the jersey and is playing well, they stay in the starting 11 , until such times as their form drops Nawrocki ahead of Trusty for me’.

Breakdown of Nawrocki’s minutes as a Celtic player

You could argue that Nawrocki is probably doing something wrong in training – and what fans don’t see – that is resulting in him hardly playing.

But, out on the pitch, from the little time he has played, that negative side isn’t showing, and he has looked good.

The other problem is that there doesn’t seem to be much of a gulf between Nawrocki and the other centre-backs, Trusty and Liam Scales.

But this Rodgers call on Nawrocki, and his game time since moving to Glasgow, is probably another sign that he needs to head for the exit door.
