Celtic fans make their feelings clear on Benjamin Nygren after defeat to Hearts at Tynecastle

A lot of Celtic players are coming under fire this season.

When things are going wrong at Celtic, then it’s a difficult and a heavy shirt to wear, and many of them will be finding that out right now.

On Sunday, Celtic were beaten at Hearts to fall eight points behind Derek McInnes’ side in the Premiership table.

Benjamin Nygren was selected from the get-go by Brendan Rodgers, and it’s fair to say that he frustrated the Celtic Park faithful with his performance.

Celtic fans react to Benjamin Nygren’s performance against Hearts

Nygren made a strong start to his Celtic career, including being the top scorer with four goals, but fans aren’t liking what they are seeing right now.

In some cases, the summer signing took some rightful criticism, but on the other hand, he was verbally battered, including for missing a clear-cut chance at 1-1.

Brutal assessment from this Celtic fan, as @AGCeltic_ stated: ‘Nygren isn’t a bad player, just needs to work on his shooting, passing, finishing, movement, heading, tackling, running.’

@Ryan___67 compared Nygren to Luis Palma: ‘Nygren is this years palma his stats look good but genuinely is awful to watch.’

Perhaps an overreaction from this Celtic fan, as @annemarie6377 added: ‘Nygren btw, I’d launch him in January.’

@GaryBoy thinks Nygren’s glorious chance at 1-1 was crucial: ‘If Nygren had scored that sitter in the first half, I think Celtic would have gone on to win this comfortably.’

Now there’s a Turnbull comparison, as @443Celtic claimed: ‘Nygren is just Turnbull from IKEA.’

Another reference to that missed chance, as @JW_1888 questioned: ‘Nygren, are you genuinely allergic to not putting it at the keeper?’

@TriviaTim was surprised Nygren stayed on beyond the hour mark: ‘Nygren and Murray being kept on is mental.’

@serendi04728279 thinks Nygren now needs to be dropped: ‘With so many players under-performing, it’ll be very difficult to pick a team for mid-week, never mind next Sunday.

‘Players who shouldn’t be in contention are: Donovan, Murray, Hatate, Nygren and Balikwisha. Doesn’t leave much to pick from, so might need to call back loanees.’

@Popes_11 expressed all that he thinks is wrong: ‘Kenny and Hatate have both been absolutely rotten. Nygren missing a sitter as well. Kenny looks like a competition winner running about like a headless chicken getting absolutely nowhere near the ball.’

@sloanybhoy7 with an interesting take: ‘Sinisalo is better than Kasper. Trusty is better than Murray, Saracchi is better than KT. Yamada is better than Kenny. Forrest is a right winger, yet plays Nygren there. This is why Rodgers needs to go! @CelticFC.’

Nygren’s stats for Celtic against Hearts

Rodgers has usually used Nygren as a number eight, but he has also played out wide, and that’s where Celtic fans have an issue.

The Sweden international played over an hour for Celtic and Tynecastle, as Sofascore rated his performance at 6.7.
