Celtic looked to be in a bit of bother this evening at times as they faced St Mirren in Paisley.

As it transpired, however, Celtic rallied to batter the Buddies 5-2 on their own patch to go 16 points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership table after Rangers lost at home again.

Brendan Rodgers’ troops put on a show in the second-half having twice conceded goals which dragged Stephen Robinson’s men back into the contest.

Jeffrey Schlupp had opened the scoring before Declan John levelled with a free-kick. Arne Engels then made it 2-1 before the break from the spot, yet Killian Phillips equalised again.

Daizen Maeda finished the rout late on after winger Yang had headed in a brilliant double and it was the South Korean playmaker who earned all the plaudits for his performance off the bench.

Stephen McGinn claimed Yang had “reignited his Celtic career” and it’s not the first time he has impressed after also changing the game vs Bayern Munich in Glasgow and being applauded by Owen Hargreaves for doing so.

Now, though, it is Celtic supporters themselves who have taken to social media in the aftermath of the victory to praise their player who continues to improve under Rodgers this season.

What Celtic fans said about Yang after St Mirren double

One fan suggested Yang is now giving Nicolas Kuhn a run for his money with the German having dropped off a bit by his own high standards recently.

They wrote: “Yang asking serious questions of that RW position. Well done young man.”

Another chuckled: “Make sure Brendan gives a high 5-2 Yang for his performance”.

One wrote: “Hats off to wee Yang. Two great finishes. Delighted for him. Patience with him was all that was needed.”

A fourth added: “Yang the man.. At the end Kuhn and McCowan were saying to each other ‘I didn’t know he was good at heading’… yass Yang well done son.”

Brendan Rodgers spoke about Yang’s Celtic development

It was a coming of age showing from Yang, 22, who has done well in recent weeks from the bench.

He came on against Aberdeen and found the net to add to his scoring tally and has been noticed by Rodgers who spoke at length about his player.

The boss recently said: “He’s obviously a young player still developing and adapting to the culture and everything about the game here and the size of the club. But he’s made a valuable contribution for us this season.

“When he’s been asked to play, he’s done well. He knows and he wants to improve his numbers. And you can see in the last few games, he’s starting to affect games more.

“He’s a good guy who’s developed really well.”
