Celtic fans think they have got a ‘star’ on their hands but are deeply concerned by his teammate

Two Celtic stars caught the eye for very different reasons as the Hoops returned to winning ways.

Celtic beat Sporting CP 2-0 at the Estadio Algarve as a penalty from Reo Hatate and goal from Luke McCowan ensured a third win from four pre-season games.

Brendan Rodgers blamed fatigue for defeat in the previous game but the same couldn’t be said for this game as the Bhoys looked fired up, created chances and pressed the defence from the very first minute.

As the season creeps up closer and closer, we’re beginning to get an idea of which players could be set for a strong season and it’s clear that two first-teamers are on course for very different campaigns as it stands.

Celtic fans are loving Benjamin Nygren

After impressing in the loss against Estrela da Amadora, Celtic’s summer signing Benjamin Nygren impressed yet again.

Nygren started in the number eight role alongside Callum McGregor and Reo Hatate, controlling the play with ease.

The Sweden international looked at home in the middle and caught the eye of supporters.

@Eeramacaroonbar wrote: “Nygren looking really composed and positive.”

@TheBhoysPage commented: “I think Nygren is going to be a star this season.”

@Hoidy added: “Nygren and Hatate look born to play side by side.”

Celtic fans tear into Adam Idah performance

While Nygren thrived, the same can’t be said for Adam Idah.

Celtic’s £9m forward missed a bucket load of chances on the night and struggled to hold the ball up well, leaving his second half replacement Johnny Kenny to come on and steal the show by having a say in both goals.

Despite scoring 20 times last season, Idah received plenty of criticism as many felt he could’ve scored more and it appears that frustrations are already creeping in.

@caim67 said: “People are watching Adam Idah and still trying to convince themselves that Odsonne Edouard on a free is a risk.”

@NotoriousBAG_ stated: “Adam Idah, I’ve seen enough.”
