A long, drama-filled and exhausting 2024/25 season for Celtic goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel came to an end on Tuesday evening.

The 38-year-old finished his debut campaign at Celtic last month, winning the double under Brendan Rodgers, and also playing in the Champions League.

It started with Celtic’s 4-0 win over Kilmarnock in August, and ended with Denmark putting five goals past Lithuania in an international friendly.

Schmeichel started his career at Manchester City, before making his debut in 2006, including representing clubs like Leeds United along the way.

The standout moment was Leicester City lifting the Premier League title in 2016, with the Dane in goal, and now he has produced a first in his career.

Celtic star Kasper Schmeichel registers an assist for Denmark against Lithuania

Schmeichel pencilled in cap number 114 for Denmark, as they hosted Lithuania in an international friendly on Tuesday – the Celtic star missed Denmark training last week, and the friendly against Nothern Ireland, after the passing of his grandmother.

After returning between the sticks with their main man, the Danes strolled to a victory in Odense, including being 3-0 up after 23 minutes following a goal from Kasper Dolberg. They won the contest 5-0.

The Anderlecht forward was assisted by Schmeichel for his goal, and it’s the first time in the Celtic man’s career that he has put himself on that list.

Has Schmeichel ever scored in his career?

Peter Schmeichel is partly famous for not just scoring once during his career, but on two occasions, alongside the ridiculous number of trophies he picked up.

The Treble-winner at Manchester United scored for the Old Trafford-based club against Rotor Volgograd in the UEFA Cup in 1995, as well as for Aston Villa against Everton in a 3-2 defeat at Goodison Park in 2001.

But it’s a feeling his son, Kasper, is yet to experience, because he hasn’t done the extraordinary and scored a goal like his dad.
