Celtic player ratings vs Dundee as Brendan Rodgers’ team stutter in six-goal thriller, two get 4/10

Celtic stuttered to a 3-3 draw after leaving it late against Dundee.

Having had much of the control of the first half, Celtic inexplicably let two leads slip to fall behind 3-2 late on against Dundee before an Arne Engels penalty rescued a point for the Hoops.

Celtic manager, Brendan Rodgers must be scratching his head as to how his players managed to allow Dundee into the game as they squandered chance after chance in the first half to put this game to bed.

Rodgers made two changes to Celtic’s starting XI as the Hoops boss looked to rotate his team with big games in the Scottish Cup and Champions League coming up as well as having to deal with injuries to key players.

However, after tonight’s stuttering performance, the Celtic manager will need to have a long hard think about what he does when Kilmarnock come to Celtic Park on Saturday.

So with that in mind, here are 67 Hail Hail’s Celtic player ratings after a thrilling night at Dens Park.

Celtic player ratings as Cameron Carter-Vickers stutters vs Dundee

Kasper Schmeichel – 6

The only thing the big Danish ‘keeper had to do was pick the ball out of the back of the net twice as Celtic’s lack of concentration allowed them to throw away a two-goal lead.

Alistair Johnston – 5

The Canadian wasn’t his usual marauding self and was caught wrong-footed at Dundee’s first equalising goal. Johnston is clearly missing his wing partner, Nicolas Kuhn.

Cameron Carter-Vickers – 4

Was solid enough in the first half and marshalled Dundee striker, Simon Murray well. Was unlucky to concede an own goal as his attempted block was knocked in at Kasper Schmiechel’s post. Was caught in no mans land at Dundee’s third goal.

Auston Trusty – 4

Was weak at Dundee’s second goal and was outjumped at the Dundee corner for the Dens Park club’s third goal. Not his finest performance in a Celtic jersey.

Greg Taylor – 6

Got the nod to start ahead of Alex Valle and combined well with Luke McCowan for Celtic’s opening goal. Looked lively on the left flank but Taylor’s performance dropped off in the second half.

Luke McCowan – 7

Was Celtic’s best player before being subbed off in the 61st minute. Linked well with Greg Taylor for Celtic’s opening goal and caused Dundee problems for much of the first half

Callum McGregor – 5

The Celtic captain was largely anonymous for much of the game and didn’t deliver to his usual high standards.

Paulo Bernardo – 5

Another player who was largely posted missing in the heart of the midfielder and missed a sitter to put the game to bed in the first half. Didn’t really put in the sort of performance that will earn him a regular starting spot.

Hyunjun Yang – 6

Looked lively in the first half but it’s the same old story for Yang as his final ball was largely disappointing. Scored Celtic’s second but didn’t offer much after that.

Kyogo Furuhashi – 6

The Japanese striker thrived again in his new wide role as Brendan Rodgers patched up his flanks due to injury issues. Had a hand in Celtic’s first and delivered a few wicked crosses. Didn’t deliver anything in the second half and was subbed in the 71st minute.

Adam Idah -5

Huffed and puffed for the 61 minutes he was on the pitch and missed a sitter in the first half that should have put the game beyond Dundee. Did have a hand in Celtic’s second goal but for the second game in a row, Idah has done little to justify his £8.5m price tag.

Arne Engels – 6 (sub)

The Belgian was brought on as Rodgers looked to secure the win after Dundee’s second equaliser. Had a shot on target but couldn’t really put in the sort of performance Celtic fans have been used to seeing. Did finish his penalty well.

Reo Hatate – 5 (sub)

One of three Celtic subs on the 61st minute, the Japanese midfielder couldn’t get a grip of the midfield and didn’t make much impact on the game.

Nicolas Kuhn – 6 (sub)

Was brought on in the 61st minute and took some time to warm up. Helped Celtic win their late penalty with some trickery on the flanks.

Luis Palma – 5 (sub)

A rare appearance from the Honduran but apart from the odd cross, never contributed much to the game.

Alex Valle – 6 (sub)

The young left-back tried to make an impact on the game after replacing Yang on the 71st minute. Had a shot on the Dundee goal that drifted just wide of Carson’s right-hand post.
