Celtic player ratings vs Hearts as Dane Murray endures 3/10 nightmare and player gets more than 5

Celtic are now eight points behind Hearts in the Scottish Premiership table after a dreadful 3-1 loss.

Dane Murray was preferred to Auston Trusty but was left with egg on his face after he turned Lawrence Shankland’s cross into his own net following an exceptional Kasper Schmeichel save.

Hearts’ lead didn’t last long though as Callum McGregor equalised following an excellent passage of play where Kieran Tierney was able to find him in a pocket of players before sweeping the ball into the back of the net.

Despite being the better side, the Hoops then found themselves 2-1 down after Benjamin Nygren and Colby Donovan failed to close down Alexandros Kyziridis, who was able to cut inside and score.

Derek McInnes’ side doubled the lead when Murray brought down Claudio Braga in the box to complete a dismal afternoon for Celtic.

Below are 67 Hail Hail’s player ratings for the loss against Hearts.

Celtic player ratings vs Hearts

Kasper Schmeichel – 4/10

While none of the goals were his fault, conceding three in a top of the table clash is never a good look.

Colby Donovan – 4/10

Should’ve done a lot better for the second goal and closed down Kyziridis before his goal.

Dane Murray – 3/10

A woeful day at the office for the youngster, who scored an own goal and then gave away a penalty early in the second half.

Liam Scales – 5/10

Struggled to form any partnership with Murray but looked comfortably better than the man next to him.

Kieran Tierney – 5/10

One of his better performances since returning. Did well for the equaliser, but ultimately it meant nothing.

Callum McGregor (C) – 5/10

Was one of Celtic’s few decent players on the pitch but the bar was very low. Took his goal well and impressed in patches, only to be let down by others.

Reo Hatate – 4/10

Reo Hatate had won all 12 of his previous games against Hearts so saw that run come to an end. Passing was very poor and he offered very little.

Arne Engels – 4/10

Set pieces were off the mark after only impressing a few days before. Inconsistency has been the story of Arne Engels’ Celtic career.

Benjamin Nygren – 4/10

Missed a great chance to give Celtic the lead in the first half by trying to be too clever with his shot and then was at fault for the second goal. Disappointing.

Johnny Kenny – 4/10

Ran his socks off but was starved of any real quality balls all afternoon. There is only so much pressing you can do, and then he was withdrawn.

Sebastian Tounekti – 5/10

Was the bright spark yet again but was oddly substituted for Michel-Ange Balikwisha in the second half. He feels like the only player that can make something happen right now.

Substitutes

James Forrest – 5/10

His effort can never be questioned but ultimately, Forrest never got much of a chance on the pitch.

Michel-Ange Balikwisha – 4/10

So negative on the ball all the time. Would be nice to see Balikwisha take a risk and beat a man, or have a shot instead of always playing the safe option.

Shin Yamada – 4/10

Ran around a bit, but didn’t really offer anything different to what Johnny Kenny did.

Luke McCowan – 5/10

Looked livelier than most when he came on the pitch and was buzzing around to create a number of chances.
