Celtic player ratings vs Kilmarnock as 8/10 debutant shines but 5/10 summer signing must do more

Celtic scored a stoppage time penalty to earn a very late win against Kilmarnock.

Fans protested against the board during the opening 12 minutes of the game as the majority of the away end spent the opening period of the game in the concourse.

Brendan Rodgers handed a debut to Sebastian Tounekti at Rugby Park, who looked bright from the off and after a frustrating first half, found themselves in front when Daizen Maeda headed home Marcelo Saracchi’s brilliant cross.

It looked as if the Hoops were going to return to winning ways, only for David Watson’s header eight minutes from time to bring the two teams level, before John Beaton awarded a stoppage time penalty.

Kelechi Iheanacho was tasked with stepping up from 12 yards and delivered, VERY LATE ON.

Below, 67 Hail Hail have graded the performances of every Celtic player against Kilmarnock.

Celtic player ratings vs Kilmarnock

Kasper Schmeichel – 6/10

Will be frustrated to concede after having very little to do.

Colby Donovan – 7/10

Fantastic from the youngster in terms of attacking and defending. Played like someone who had been a first team regular for years and didn’t look out of place at all. He should definitely be knocking on the door for more chances.

Cameron Carter-Vickers – 6/10

As solid as ever at the back and always helps elevate the performance of his teammates.

Liam Scales – 6/10

Dealt well with the physical presence of the Kilmarnock attackers and was rarely troubled.

Marcelo Saracchi – 6/10

Looked shaky to start with but delivered a sumptuous cross for the goal that broke the deadlock. Looks like he has developed a good partnership with Tounekti early doors.

Reo Hatate – 6/10

Didn’t really stand out, but didn’t do anything to disappoint.

Callum McGregor (C) – 6/10

A solid performance in the middle of the park. Looked good defensively.

Benjamin Nygren – 6/10

Wasn’t great in the first half but gradually got more involved after the break and had some good chances to get himself on the scoresheet.

Michel-Ange Balikwisha – 5/10

Hardly got involved in the game. His debut against Rangers could be excused, but you would expect far more than what was on display in Ayrshire.

Daizen Maeda – 6/10

Put behind all of the drama surrounding his future to pop up with a crucial goal. Wasn’t really in the game but still made a huge impact.

Sebastian Tounekti – 8/10

An outstanding debut. Made it a difficult afternoon for his opponent and looked like he was capable of being a very exciting player to watch throughout the remainder of the season. Hopefully this is just the start of what we will hope becomes a new hero.
