Celtic Predicted XI vs St Mirren as Brendan Rodgers makes two changes, Kyogo call

Celtic take on St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday looking to extend their winning start to the 2024/25 campaign.

The Bhoys have won both of their opening league matches as well as booked their place in the Scottish League Cup quarter-finals.

Today could well be the toughest test of the season so far. St Mirren are a top-six side who have proven to be difficult opponents away from home in recent years.

However, Celtic will be confident knowing they beat the Buddies in all five match-ups between the two sides last term.

Here’s a look at Brendan Rodgers’ possible line-up when the teams are announced at 10:45am.

Potential Celtic line-up vs St Mirren

Kasper Schmeichel will continue in goal, firmly established as the team’s number-one shot-stopper – even in cup games. There’s a chance he starts every single Celtic match this season.

The back four helping the great Dane keep a clean sheet should be unchanged from last week. Alistair Johnston, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Liam Scales and Greg Taylor are all expected to feature with Celtic not yet strengthening Rodgers’ options in defence.

In midfield, we’ll see captain Callum McGregor and the continual joy-to-watch Reo Hatate. However, there will be no Matt O’Riley who has travelled to England to undergo a medical ahead of signing for Brighton.

Paulo Bernardo is the most likely candidate to come into the team in his place, until Celtic sign reinforcements. Hatate will have to step up as the team’s most creative talent in support of the attack.

Daizen Maeda is a good bet to return to the left flank after his go at the centre-forward position last week against Hibs, scoring two goals.

That will make room for Adam Idah to come in and start for the first time since his big-money permanent transfer from Norwich City. Kyogo Furuhashi is again available after a shoulder injury and can disrupt the game in the second half.

Nicolas Kuhn is also on hand to provide threat and fans will be excited to see him continue his excellent start to the season.

Your Predicted XI in full is: Schmeichel, Johnston, Carter-Vickers, Scales, Taylor, McGregor, Bernardo, Hatate, Kuhn, Maeda, Idah.
